I just finished this article which provides the latest details on Project Constellation and the emerging concepts for the CEV.
A substantially longer version will appear later this week in the online journal New Mars. The longer version puts the CEV in context with past attempts to develop a worthy successor to the Space Shuttle, and the reasons why they all ended in failure.
